The Department of Information Technology hereby invites all interested to a docent (associate professorship) lecture in subject Computer Science with specialization in Computer Communication.
Low-power Internet-enabled devices are a key component of tomorrow's Internet of Things (IoT). In this context, the low-power IP stack acts as a hub to heterogeneous communication technologies and applications. A major challenge when going from ad-hoc sensor network solutions to Internet-enabled devices is to achieve the desired level of dependability, in terms of reliability and security. After introducing the low-power Internet stack, we present our work on IoT dependability. We focus primarily on achieving reliable end-to-end delivery in multi-hop networks. We introduce medium access, scheduling, and routing mechanisms to enable low-power routing in challenging environment. The solutions we present were implemented and validated at scale, through testbed experiments. We will then review other aspects of our work, such as mitigation of cross-technology interference, or privacy preservation of IoT data. We conclude with a review of open research issues.
The lecture is an obligatory teaching test for those applying for admittance as docent (associate professor) and it should be possible for students and others with basic academic education in the relevant field to follow it. The lecture will last for 45 minutes and afterwards the audience may ask questions. The lecture will be given in English.
