Friends in the right places can be a good instrument to exert informal control over an economy, isn’t it? Around a third of Russia’s largest corporations have top government officials as directors. IRES visiting scholar Dmitri Trifonov will share his research on how common are corporate political connections in Russia, whether they are good or bad for Russian companies, and in which way the events in Ukraine affected politicization of Russian economy. This data will be presented for the first time for a wider audience.

Dmitri Trifonov is a PhD candidate at the Department of Applied Economics, Higher School of Economics (Moscow) who currently is a guest researcher at IRES. His research interests concern corporate governance, corporate finance, institutional economics, emerging markets and economies in transition.
